Tamarindo is located in the Guanacaste province of Costa Rica. Tamarindo sport fishing has become one of the top activities to do in the North Pacific.

The waters off Tamarindo offer some of the best fishing opportunities in Costa Rica, with a wide range of species to target, such as sailfish, marlin, roosterfish, yellowfin tuna, dorado (mahi mahi), wahoo, and snapper.

Fishing in Tamarindo can be done from both large fishing vessels and smaller private boats. Many local fishing charters and guides are available to take anglers out on the water, offering both half-day and full-day trips. These boats are equipped with all necessary fishing gear, including rods, reels, and tackle, as well as safety equipment such as life jackets and first aid kits.

Tamarindo has a large sailfish population, which can be caught year-round, but the best time to catch them is from November to May. Marlin fishing is also popular in Tamarindo, with the best time to catch them being from December to April. Roosterfish can be caught year-round, but the best time is from October to April. Yellowfin tuna, dorado, wahoo, and snapper can be caught year-round, but the best time is from December to April.

The most common method of fishing in Tamarindo is trolling, which involves pulling a lure or bait behind a moving boat to attract fish. Trolling is an effective method for catching a wide variety of species, including sailfish, marlin, and dorado. Another popular method is casting, which involves casting a lure or bait by hand and reeling it back in. This method is often used for catching roosterfish and other inshore species.
